The In-Between
Beatrice Lebreton
Inspired by the African Diaspora, Béatrice Lebreton sources her multicultural heritage and current events as she creates work that encourages the viewer’s engagement and interpretation. Working primarily in mixed media, Lebreton combines textiles, stitched and beaded surfaces with painted sections on the canvas as a means of commemoration and interaction. The patterns, fabrics, and beads become a focal motif that add a tactile touch and fuse into what she characterizes as a language stretched between the limits of the imaginary and history. Still, storytelling is quite important to her practice, as evidenced using combining text into the composition. She engages viewers visually on multiple levels while creating a space for curiosity in examining the information embedded within the work.

Oluwasanmi Adesiyan and Olisa Nwadiogbu

Oluwasanmi Adesiyan is a self-taught figurative artist from Ekiti State, Nigeria. He is a graduate of the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Nigeria where he studied Food Science and Technology. He lives in Lagos, Nigeria from where he makes his drawings. His journey into art was born from his love for drawing.

Artists are born with their talents intact. Nurturing exposure to appropriate environments and early training are not quite as certain. Born in Jamaica, Michael Escoffery had the good fortune to be the son of intellectuals whose interest in his future made it possible for him to pursue his proclivities. His parents were students of the celebrated artist Edna Manley, wife of a national hero and mother of a Jamaican Prime Minister. Escoffery considers himself an expatriate still intangibly connected to his birth land. Educated and trained in the unique matrix of African and European cultures that make up the Caribbean Islands, Escoffery’s mission is to create a symbiosis of this cultural heritage and the late 20th century art, as did Wilfred Lam in the mid-20th century.

Framed Gallery Presents : David Buttram - Urban Oasis : Realities of our lives

The inner city, with all the urban mystifications, is the backdrop of the artistic works and paintings of David Buttram. Inspired by the iconic masters of yesteryear, including Van Gough, Rembrandt, O’Tanner and The Eight, among other impressionist and works of the Ashcan school, Buttram creates images of natural and man-made objects with vivid combinations of lights, shadows, reflections and colors. Each work reveals a range of human emotion and mood enabling viewers to convey the toil, strife, beauty and peace within. Capturing the moment within the city that expresses the precious nuances of life, Buttram illuminates the challenge among his subjects through the diversity of looks and attitudes making each painting a uniquely joyous celebration.

Shapes are essential to our being as each one occupies its rightful place in time and memory. Such is art and, yes they can actually shape our lives and work together for us if we can see the beauty in the fragments... of color and of life.

Tiffani Glenn
Rise To the Occasion features a new body of work by artist Tiffani Glenn. As you look around you will easily notice that each piece is saturated in different shades of orange. The subject is surrounded by a red-orange background decorated with lighter shades of orange circles. She chose to use the color orange because not only is it a dynamic color but it is also associated with the evocation of change and transformation. Elements we will all go through in life. In general orange symbolizes success, encouragement, joy, and happiness - everything Glenn aspires to portray in her work.
