Fragmentation

Like fragments of broken shards our diverse experiences are waiting to be spatially brought together… by us. Creating something new from them is the divine task. Shapes are essential to our being as each one occupies its rightful place in time and memory. Such is art and, yes they can actually shape our lives and work together for us if we can see the beauty in the fragments... of color and of life.

I sometimes see the images and sometimes we together do not know where "all this is going". But I am no longer afraid as I learn to bring these fragments to serve me. Testing and trying with colors to push conformity by accepting freedom. The freedom to try.

I also have an interesting relationship with lines. My brush asking me to paint while I wondered if I could be permitted to draw. So we reach a truce and will do both. The lines used are not distractions but tell infinite stories. Lines keep things flowing. There must be a way to make all this work and it is up to all of us. Broken shards and broken lines all like a mosaic singing a solemn song shared by all humanity. We decide how to play and hear the song of harmony.

Exploring fragments in this format becomes a labor of love. Painting with a small brush is challenging as I am eager to see the finished work. I am used to this prolific existence as an artist but this time I am required by this series to touch the canvas hundreds if not thousands of times depending on the size and complexity.

The harmony inherent in this body of work evokes a certainty of lyrical expressions of the pleases heart. I hope there’s harmony, light and peaceful projections as the viewer contemplates each piece. Fragments allowed me to reach into my past experiences to engage them and make them benign and kind to my present. You must do the same as you interpret with freedom, the works before you. It is yours to interpret and yours to interact with.
